Ooooohhhhh! It’s just around the corner! The month of spooks and chills. And here in Truckee, that means laughs, too. Truckee’s Haunted Historical Tour will once again hit the streets of the old downtown area for a rip roarin’ good time this October 13th and 14th! Do you have your tickets yet?
A fundraiser for local non-profit, Trails and Vistas, the Historical Haunted Tour gives guests a taste of Truckee’s darker past and lets them experience the Wild West in Truckee’s oldest and ghostly buildings, some of which are not generally open to the public, such as the Masonic Lodge.
Our actors love having a ball dressing up in historical garb and create a character that makes guests wonder what the evening has in store for them! The tour takes full creative license to ensure the guests are thoroughly entertained, occasionally harassed, and sometimes doted upon.
The funds raised from the Historical Haunted Tour allows Trails and Vistas to continue to provide Arts in Nature field trips to over 300 third graders from the Truckee and Lake Tahoe area. These interactive field trips let students participate in environmental education, visual art, poetry, storytelling, creative movement with a musician, and learn about the natural history. No student is denied because of the lack of funds. For some students, this is the first time they visit Sand Harbor State Park, where the field trips are held, and experience its environmental beauty. Their teachers incorporate many of the themes and activities from the field trip day into their class curriculum throughout the rest of the year. This year’s biggest hit was Sean Cummings, the bagpiper, who led the students from one station to the next and explained all of the history of his costume and his instrument.
Trails & Vistas mission is to create community by celebrating the arts in nature.
