Tahoe Transportation Study Helps Bridge the Gap

Sometimes the agencies/programs of a city fall away from working on the issues that would best benefit the community they serve. The Tahoe transportation study is a way to get things back on track. Please read below the highlights and if you would like to read the full article click here.

How Did This Get Started

In 2020, it was apparent that there were a lot of traffic issues near North Shore. Some of the issues included parking issues, boats, and pedestrian safety. When Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill ran for office she stated that this would be the main issue that she would try to resolve if she were to be elected.

Tahoe Area Transportation Plan

The Tahoe Area plan was approved in 2021 and it gave the commissioner of Washoe county $100,000 for a comprehensive transportation study.

“I think it’s going to be a great way for community members to really tell us their concerns and problem areas of town that we can address.” – Amy Cummings

At the first meeting, it was explained that this project wouldn’t just target transportation needs in Incline Village and Crystal Bay but also include the communities’ input on what the highest need is in the area. The community will be able to provide input and learn about the study in multiple ways, at the Citizens Advisory board meetings, presentations to the board of County Commissioners, and other virtual meetings. Some of the topics that will be included in the study are snow plowing practices, short-range transit, parking management, and reducing employer-based vehicle trips.

Community members can expect to hear more about the survey at future CAB meetings. The survey is planned to be wrapped up at the end of the calendar year. (Source)
