A wonderful annual event is just on the horizon and you should really check it out! Every year, for the past 10 years, the Town of Truckee has held a town-wide Clean up Day and Townwide Block Party on the first Saturday in June. Anyone from small children (with parents in tow) to senior citizens can spend an hour or so cleaning up roadside trash in their part of town with their friends and neighbors. Check-in stations are spread throughout the local neighborhoods and trash bags are provided at these stations, as well as water and snacks to keep you going, and even a limited edition t shirt for all participants. Afterwards, you can enjoy the free BBQ for volunteers at the Truckee River Regional Park for a down home BBQ.
2014’s Clean up Day saw over 800 volunteers collecting over 3 tons of trash – an awe-inspiring, and a bit frightening, amount!
Many local businesses help to sponsor this event. As a resort area, it makes sense to put our best face forward as the height of the visitor season approaches, and this is also a wonderful way for each of us to take ownership of this lovely spot we call “home”. Plus, it’s a great educational, environmental teaching moment for our children.
Former Mayor, Maia Schneider, was the brain child behind this unique concept, and we’re proud to say that Dickson Realty has been involved since its inception. We will have a check-n station at our office at 11836 Donner Pass Road to clean up the area around our office along Donner Pass Road and Meadow Park, and up Northwoods Boulevard.
You do need not pre-register to participate, just show up at one of the check-in stations on the day of the event. You’ll find a list of those stations here. See you at the BBQ!
